The Importance of Investing in Cruelty-Free Vegan Self-Care

We hope your 2021 has been treating you swell and better than last year.. a year with certainly defining moments that made it less than ideal for our well-being.

There is still a lot left of this year, and we definitely want to ensure that it’s better than the last. And for that cause, might we suggest, veganism?

“But,” you ask, “what does being vegan have to do with making this a better year?”

Well, dear reader, turn on your listening ears and open up your hearts because we’ve got some stuff to share with you.

First of all, climate change. Yes, this has been an issue way before 2020. However, with the frequency of wildfires and floods that had plagued multiple countries last year, it really makes you wonder: Just how badly have humans been treating the Earth? In the U.S. alone, last year, there were 52,113 wildfires that burned 8,889,297 acres, which is almost double the area burned in 2019. In contrary to what some people may think, global warming is definitely real, and it bared its fangs along with the other disasters that marked 2020.

Second, it is better for the animals. Although not required by law, SEVERAL companies test their ingredients & products on mice, rats, bunnies and guinea pigs. For example some companies testing cosmetic ingredients for skin and eye irritation will conduct week or month long studies rubbing the chemical on shaved skin or drip it into the eyes of restrained animals to look for signs and specific health hazards or are even force fed chemicals to know how much of it causes death. At the end of a test, the animals are killed.

Phew, that was a lot to process, wasn’t it?

There are definitely ways to help. Start with gradually changing up your daily consumables. A lot of the stuff that we use every day contain animal products, not to mention the food that we’re eating. 70% of the crops grown in the U.S. goes to feeding livestock, when those could very well be used to feed the hungry. Moreover, ruminant animals (e.g., cattle, goats) produce methane when they, ahem, fart, which cause serious harm to the Earth’s atmosphere. In general, the meat and animal product industry are harmful to the environment, and ethically questionable for the animals especially.

Lastly, it is better for your skin and over all health. by using more vegan-friendly stuff, not only would you be positively contributing to the environment, you would also be treating yourself by taking care of your body the way it deserves! Studies have shown that eating vegan significantly improves health, because the saturated fats that come from meats are cut out. Besides food, opting for cruelty-free vegan skin & body care products would also be miles better for your skin, while giving you peace of mind that you are using ethically-produced items. Animal by-products in ingredients can be harsh and can even clog pores, so vegan products are a perfect alternative for all skin types,  most especially sensitive skin. Vegan skincare products use all or majority of its ingredients from plants and earthly sources – extracting all the goodness of nature, enriching your skin with extra vitamins and antioxidants, without the interference of unnecessary chemicals that could potentially cause allergic reactions.

Have we tickled your fancy, yet?

Making the switch may seem intimidating at first, but there are vegan alternatives to absolutely everything! From your favorite cuisine to luxurious buttery bath bombs. With just a cursory search on the internet, you’ll find that there are plenty of vegan and cruelty-free options out there, especially with skincare. Oftentimes, these products would be crafted and packaged in a way that is far more attractive than mainstream brands. One such example is my homie brand, Raw ByRoque. We specialize in creating affordable, fun and unique dessert shaped (and scented!) cruelty-free vegan body products, such as our OG donut soaps and buttery cupcake bath bombs. They look so realistic and smell so good, you almost want to take a bite!

In a way, exploring cruelty-free and vegan products is a form of self-care. By taking care of the Earth and animals, you’re also nurturing your mind and body.. giving yourself the best of the best!

After making it this far, it is definitely worth it to start looking into vegan self-care, and start investing in yourself!
